The State HSS has a streamlined organizational structure headed by Hon’ble Governor of West Bengal as Patron-in-Chief and a former Judge of Supreme Court of India as its President. There is a State Board of Management consisting of 17 members which include eminent personalities like Mr. Justice Murai Mohan Dutt, Retd. Judge of Supreme Court of India, Mr. Justice Malay Sengupta, former Chief Justice, Sikkim High Court, Sri Debabrata Bandyapadhyay, IAS, (Retd.), MP and former Secretary to the Government of India and Director of the Asian Development Bank, Sri D.N. Banerjee, former Secretary, Govt. of West Bengal and Chairman, Central Valuation Board, Sri A.K. Das, WBCS (Exe.), Jt. Secretary, Dept. of Home, Govt. of West Bengal. One third of the 17 members are women.


The Sangh also has an Advisory Council consisting of 12 members and include personalities like Swami Tattwajnananda Maharaj, Principal, R.K. Mission Shilpamandira, Dr. Dilip Kumar Sinha, former Vice Chancellor, Visva Bharati University. Both these bodies are mutually inclusive and complement each others’ role at joint sittings. The Executive authority of the Sangh is vested in the Hon’y Secretary, Prof. Sankar Kumar Sanyal who besides being a member of the bar at the Calcutta High Court and Industrial Consultant has been a dynamic Gandhian leader of the Eastern region nurtured by eminent Gandhians like Prafulla Chandra Sen, Sakti Ranjan Bose, Dr. Phulrenu Guha. A close confidant of Padmabibhusan Late Ms. Nirmala Deshpande, MP, renowned Sarvoyadaya Leader of the country and President of HSS, Delhi till her demise, Prof. Sanyal has made the Bengal branch a spearhead in the battle of emancipation of the poor and the deprived and also for empowerment of the women in active collaboration with parent organization, Harijan Sevak Sangh, Delhi, All India Women’s Conference, Akhil Bharat Rachnatmak Samaj and similar other reputed Gandhian institutions.
